Getting There

Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport is conveniently located about 10 miles northwest of downtown Savannah, making it easily accessible for travelers arriving by air. From there, a variety of transportation options are available. We elected to use ride sharing, which was super convenient.

Where To Stay in Savannah

There are plenty of options for great hotels in the historic area. We picked the Hotel Andaz Savannah because of its central location, price point, and overall vibe. We loved the local artwork, welcoming atmosphere, and the well-stocked snack bars in each room. This hotel has a lovely rooftop pool where we spent several hours cooling off from the sweltering summer sun!

What to See

Chippewa Square

Chippewa Square’s popularity extends beyond its historic significance—it’s also famous as the filming location for the iconic Forrest Gump bench scenes. Visitors are drawn to this square to relive the magic of the movies and connect with the city’s cinematic heritage. Even though the bench has since been removed and safely relocated to one of Savannah’s many museums, Chippewa Square is still a great spot to spend some time.

River Street

River Street’s popularity is a testament to Savannah’s vibrant atmosphere. Exploring this bustling waterfront promenade, you’ll understand why it’s a favorite for both locals and visitors. The historic buildings, quirky shops, and riverside views make it a delightful place to spend an afternoon.

As you explore the city’s historic district, you’ll encounter these beautifully crafted steps, often adorned with intricate ironwork and flanked by centuries-old oak trees. Jones Street is voted one of the most beautiful streets in the States.

Explore exhibits that highlight the city’s role in American history, including its connections to the Civil War and its founding. One of our favorite galleries happens to have been in the lobby of the city’s J.W. Marriott property! They have a chrome-covered brontosaurus and lots of sparkly geodes!

This hot spot is on top of one of Savannah’s many historic buildings in the Plant Riverside area. Once you find the elevator to the top, you will find yourself surrounded by romantic floral decor and great views. Drinks here are tasty, making this a great place to relax in beautiful surroundings for a bit.

Service Brewing Co.

Service Brewing Co. is a craft brewery in Savannah that combines a passion for brewing with a commitment to honoring those who have served in the military. We loved this dog-friendly local hangout!

Maple Street Biscuit Co.

Maple Street Biscuit Co. has a diverse menu to satisfy your taste buds. It’s a perfect spot for a hearty breakfast or a satisfying brunch, where you can savor the flavors of the South in every bite. Ordering is fun and the atmosphere reminds me of small diners from childhood.

The Pink House

The Pink House, steeped in history and Southern elegance, embodies the allure of Savannah’s dining scene. Its popularity is a testament to how Savannah effortlessly combines its historic charm with a vibrant culinary culture. You’ll need to make reservations here and be prepared to spend a bit more, but it is worth every penny. Take a tour of the historic property while you’re there.

Top Deck

Perched atop the Cotton Sail Hotel in Savannah’s historic district, Top Deck Savannah is a rooftop bar and restaurant that offers breathtaking panoramic views of the city and the Savannah River. This rooftop oasis is renowned for its inviting ambiance and scenic vistas, making it a must-visit destination for both locals and visitors.
