This quarter’s travel roundup comes pretty fresh off my one month blogging break! Every year, I’ve been taking the month of May off from my blog in celebration of my birthday. Prior to taking my break, I put some feelers out about these posts. After getting some feedback, I am carrying on with these posts each quarter. I like these quick little write-ups of our last three months’ travel activities. They quick offering glimpses of things that haven’t made it onto the blog yet!

April

In April, we headed to Bismarck, North Dakota to celebrate a family milestone. This was a fun and easy way to get away for just a few days and spend some time with family. Originally, we were going to drive there. It’s a long and relatively boring drive, but its manageable. However, after finding a good deal on a last minute airfare, we decided to fly. This was a much better option for us because our schedules have been pretty hectic lately which meant flying was more convenient, less tiresome, and totally worth it. I was able to cross a travel bucket list item off during this trip too! In the Denver International Airport, I finally saw one of the adorable CATS (canine airport therapy squad) team members. I’ve been hoping to see one of these adorable pups while passing through Denver for three years! Lucy was adorable and totally made my day! I’m not sure who was happier?!

May

Not only is May my birthday month, but it is also a month we typically take advantage of the long holiday weekend. We like to try to get one more short trip in before my husband’s work schedule picks up during the busy summer season. This year, we found a killer deal to San Diego, California. We had visited here about five and half years ago with friends. During that trip, our friends got in a fight and actually broke up. It was a mess and we really didn’t even get to enjoy the city! We were excited to return to this beautiful Southern California spot on our terms with zero drama.

Loving the San Diego skyline!

June

While my hubby made a quick trip to North Dakota, June was an uneventful travel month for me. But, that’s ok because this year we are going somewhere in both July and August. Having the month off allowed us to finish up some planning on these trips and enjoy the first month of summer at home. This is also our first time in three years that neither of us have been doing school on top of work over the summer months, so we really enjoyed the freedom!

By Land and Sea

I’ve been working away on posts and social media content for the second half of the year. I’m really excited to be sharing our posts on our first trip to Thailand, as well as our first MSC cruise! I’m starting a major overhaul on By Land and Sea too! To start, I’ve cleaned up the menus and will start to update content on the various pages and older posts. You will also notice some other updates and fun features rolling out on our site too. But, all of this will be an evolving process over time, so keep your eye out for all these exciting changes! I’m really excited to jump on this refresh!!

  1. What an adorable dog! It’s great that you designate a month off from blogging – with a full-time office job I find it can get pretty draining to be spending even more time in a day looking at a screen. I’ve been doing some updates on my blog too, and there’s something so rewarding and enjoyable about it! Enjoy your upcoming trips 🙂

  2. Nice to know you occasionally take a little time off to just kick back and relax at home. Glad you had the opportunity for just the two of you to visit San Diego – what a beautiful picture of the skyline, and the sailboat in the water. Love the picture of the airport pup – what an adorable girl!!

    1. Yes, believe it or not I do!! Isn’t Lucy adorable? I went running out of a restaurant to meet her when I noticed her pass by!

  3. I like these round up posts too. Excellent idea to have a month off. When I go travelling, we always designate a day where we don’t take photos as a way to really just enjoy travel and take it in. excited to see where you are off too in July and August!

    1. It is really important to take time to soak up the moment when traveling. People seem to forget about this.

  4. So, I hope you get a chuckle out of this (because I do…) I just got home from a week in beautiful Montana, and all I can think of when I see “North Dakota” is the bumper sticker I saw that said, “Montana is full. I hear North Dakota is nice.” Tee hee hee! ~ Sage Scott, the Everyday Wanderer

  5. Updates are so much work, but always so nice to get done! Looking forward to more stories, and more updates. 🙂 Also, thanks for the chuckle – the irony of therapy dogs being CATS is hilarious to me. Good thing they’re so good natured! 😉

  6. What a genius idea to plan a blogging break into your year. I’ll bet you come back refreshed. I’m interested to hear what you got up to in North Dakota—that’s pretty close to me here in Minnesota! I hear a lot of good things about San Diego too. And first trip to Thailand—lots of exciting posts coming up! #feetdotravel. —Cynthia, Adventuring Woman

  7. Jenn, you must return to San Diego! My hometown has so much to offer. And let me know when you’re here — we could meet for coffee or lunch. I’d love that!

    1. Oh bummer, we totally missed you! Would have loved to have met up for some coffee. This second trip of ours was much better though!!
