Whenever we check a bag, it comes back to bite us in the butt. Every. single. time. It’s safe to say that if we check a bag, we will miss a flight and be stuck overnight without anything! It’s Murphy’s Law at it’s finest. Plus, we don’t want to pay those awful fees that come with checking bags. By carrying our own bags, we saved enough money in fees last year alone to pay for another trip. Here’s a few of my methods and tips that I use every time!
Roll (almost) everything, stick it in a travel space saver bag and seal, roll again. Voila! These bags not only help save space, but they keep things clean too. Stick a dryer sheet in each bag to keep everything smelling fresh too! The only clothes I don’t put in here are small items like tank tops, etc. Those smaller items get folded and crammed into that void created by the housing for the pull handle on my suitcase. Otherwise, it’s wasted space. Tip – take off any rings (and watch out for fingernails too) prior to rolling the air out of your space saver bag so it doesn’t get punctured.
Always travel with a water bottle. Again, this is another way to save a fortune, and stay hydrated too. I don’t like bottles that take up too much space, so I found the perfect one – reusable, attachable, standable, foldable, dishwasher safe, and completely flat. They are so easy to carry and never take up too much space! Plus, the carabiner makes it easy to attach to things.
I have become the official queen of hotel sizes and sample products. Never underestimate these goodies! I use them all the time when traveling, plus I use them in my gym bag, purse, and also use them as part of my daily routine. I get these items everywhere. Any time I stay at a hotel, I pick up the toiletries. For the sample packets… check magazines, vendors, trade shows, your beauty salon, and more. Many retailers and businesses are more than happy to give you samples of products ranging from shampoo, lotion, eye drops, makeup, perfume, and more! They take up virtually no space, allowing you to get all sorts of products into that little TSA-approved quart size bag.
